Friends of Gahini

Friends of Gahini is a network of five Anglican churches from the United States with the Diocese of Christ Our Hope who partner with churches in the Gahini Diocese of Rwanda. Church of the Apostles is sending a team to assess if we are called to be the sixth church to join this network. The Apostles’ team of three people - Brian, Walter, and Beth - will join people from other churches in the network and visit Rwanda from April 21 - May 3.

Rwanda is one of the most densely populated nations in Africa with one of the youngest populations in the world. Gahini is located in the Eastern Province of Rwanda and was one of the regions hardest hit by the genocide of 1994. The economy in the Eastern Province is largely made up of small farms. Churches in this region lead the way in providing healthcare and education to all.

While in Rwanda, the Apostles Team will help lead a training for Rwandan pastors and leaders, visit hospitals, schools, and farms, and offer tutoring to school aged children. Beth, who serves as the Communications Coordinator for Africa with Young Life, will be taking part in meetings to help support the success of Young Life in Rwanda.

The most exciting part of the trip may be when our team joins Bishop Manasseh of the Gahini Diocese and visits churches and leaders in the Rukomo Parish in the northeastern part of the country. Brian and Walter will preach and participate in leading a worship service on Sunday and the team will spend two days visiting with people and learning about the work God is doing while discerning together with our Rwandan sisters and brothers if a partnership is a good fit for both.
